Off To Whistler Blackcomb

We are off to Whistler Blackcomb for the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival. The TELUS event is the biggest annual celebration of music, arts, sports & culture on the planet. For 10 days and 10 nights, Whistler turns up the volume with 50 live concerts, major pro ski and snowboard comps, legendary arts events, endless nightlife and the best spring skiing & riding in the world.

Unfortunately, we won’t be here for the full 10 days and nights. We have to head back home on Sunday in order to catch a flight to San Fransisco on Monday. This is my first time at the Ski & Snowboard festival. I’m sure it’ll be fun. If it’s not, I’ll blame Stephen Fung since all this was his idea.

Got To Love The Dot Com Lifestyle

Events like the TELUS World really help to illustrate the dot com lifestyle. None of us are paying to attend this event because we’re invited media. Not only is the event free but cost for hotel and food are tax deductible because we’re here on business.

From what I’ve been hearing about past events, TELUS does a great job taking care of the media. We have a VIP lounge and media room with computers and wireless Internet so we can make updates. Of course there’s the Big Air party as well. I’m sure there are other parties going on that I haven’t found out about yet.

Joining Sarah and I on this Dot Com Whistler trip are Stephen Fung, Michael Kwan, Brice Wong, Leo Chiang and Ed Lau. Since TELUS World is a family event, Sarah recommended I take my parents and Sally along. Nothing like mixing business with pleasure.

Look for videos and photos from the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival real soon. That Flip is going to get a workout!

Server Virtualization Firm, VMware, Invests $100 Million in New Facility

Bangalore, India - (The Hosting News) - March 27, 2008 - Virtualization solutions firm, VMware, Inc., has committed to a multi-year initiative for the purpose of expanding its India-based research and development (R and D) operations.

VMware already has a strong presence across India with offices in Bangalore, Pune, Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai. The initiative was announced today by VMware president and CEO Diane Greene at a news conference in Bangalore.
The initiative includes:
  • Investing U.S. $100 million (4 billion Indian Rupees) in India by 2010
  • A new, state-of-the-art 82,000 square foot development center in Bangalore
  • Doubling the company's India-based engineering organization to more than 1,000 people in the next two years

Ms. Greene explained, ''Great products are built by great people. India has both an excellent technical education infrastructure and outstanding people. We highly value our Indian citizen employees. India is also one of our fastest growing markets and where we have increasingly important system integrator partners. For these reasons, we are now substantively increasing our investment in India.''

VMware entered India in 2004. The company has more than 300 customers and more than 160 channel partners in the country. With offices in 5 cities, VMware employs nearly 700 people, including more than 500 developers, across India. It has established strong ties to local universities in India including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, NIT Trichi, NIT Surathkal, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the RV College of Engineering.

The new Bangalore development center expands on existing R and D operations in Bangalore and Pune. The center supports new and ongoing research and development across the company's entire portfolio of solutions for datacenter and desktop virtualization. The new 82,000 square foot development center is located in South Bangalore and includes a 4,000 square foot computer lab.

Earlier this year VMware announced major enhancements to the VMware VIP Partner Program. The enhancements help make it easier for the company's 10,000 channel partners to quickly establish or expand their virtualization practices and offer their customers increased value through VMware's market-leading virtualization solutions.

VMware provides virtualization solutions from the desktop to the datacenter. Customers of all sizes rely on VMware to reduce capital and operating expenses, ensure business continuity, strengthen security and go green. With 2007 revenues of $1.3 billion, more than 100,000 customers and more than 10,000 partners, VMware is one of the fastest growing public software companies. VMware is headquartered in Palo Alto, California.
